Friday recap 2/26
Unlike last week, the NFL has been buzzing this week. From more JJ Watt conspiracy to trade rumors, we’ll fill you in on everything significant that happened in the last seven days.
JJ Watt has once again made an appearance on Friday recap. This week is about where he will sign and for how much. Wednesday it was broke by John Clayton that the front runners for the star defensive end are the Titans, Packers, Bills and the Raiders are said to be the dark horse. He later went back on this statement saying that teams like the Browns and Steelers aren’t ruled out but those other teams are said to be of a greater likelihood to sign JJ. Yesterday, Dianna Russini tweeted that JJ has received multiple offers, and that the best one has been between $15 and $16 million.
This week was another one for trade rumors as well. Well, to be clear there aren’t really rumors as much as there are straight facts, but we move. It was reported earlier in the week that Russell Wilson and the Seahawks “marriage” has come to a tumultuous stage and Russ is considering a divorce. Wilson told the team that he is not formally requesting a trade, but if he were to be traded he would prefer four teams, the Raiders, Bears, Saints and Cowboys, per Profootball talk. There has also been other teams swirling around that Russ would be interested in, such as the Jets. Deshaun Watson has also been in the trade news this week too, because of his meeting with new head coach, David Culley. The two apparently sat down to talk and Watson told him that he has zero intention to play for the organization, and is adamant in wanting a trade out of Houston.
Titans fans, you’ve also had quite the week. The team has been shopping their 2020 first round pick, Isaiah Wilson. Wilson only played 4 snaps for Tennessee last season and ended the year on the NFI list. He had tweeted earlier in the week that he was done with the organization, the tweet was later deleted. So what could the team get for the disgruntled Georgia product? They also released wide receiver Adam Humphries. This move saves the team about $4.5 million in cap space next year, and definitely plays into the JJ Watt narrative.
Some big name players were released this week, those being Duke Johnson, Jurrell Casey and Tyrell Williams. Duke was part of a one-two punch with David Johnson in 2020, and its fair to say David came out as the top back. Casey, on the other hand got injured early in the 2020 season and spent the rest of the year on IR. Casey was traded by the Titans last offseason to Denver as part of a cap dump, and this release gives the vet a chance to sign somewhere where he can get a shot at a ring, as he’s still a solid addition to any defensive line, just for the right price. And lastly, Williams was only 2 years into his 4 year contract with the Raiders and is most likely just a mean to an end in getting some extra cap space (maybe for a certain someone who’s name rhymes with wussell rilson), as his hit for 2021 would be around $10 million.
To conclude this weeks Friday recap we want to take this opportunity to wish Tiger Woods a speedy recovery after his car accident. We know this isn’t football related, but as Tiger is one of the most recognizable athletes of this generation, and one of the greatest black athletes of all time, we just want to give our recognition to him and his family. And with that, have a good weekend, spend some time with your loved ones, see you all next week!
